The V.I. Department of Health has announced that Skippy Foods, LLC voluntarily recalled jars of several types of SKIPPY® Peanut Butter products due to the possibility that the products might contain fragments of stainless steel from a piece of manufacturing equipment. This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, D.O.H. said.

The voluntary recall occurred nationwide on Friday and involves 9.353 cases of 161,692 pounds of the product. The specific products impacted by the recall include SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein, according to the release.

D.O.H. advised the public that only one of the recalled products are WIC-approved and that product is not widely used by VI WIC program participants. However, the department said it is proactively advising the public as a precaution.

"It is recommended that consumers make sure they do not have any of the recalled products by referring to the lot numbers listed below and checking the code date, “Best If Used By”, located on top of the lid," D.O.H. said.

V.I. consumers who have this product should return it to their retailer for an exchange, the Dept. of Health said. Consumers may also call Skippy Foods Consumer Engagement at 1-866-475-4779 or visit the website at www.peanutbutter.com for instructions and information. The Consumer Engagement team is available Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time.

There were no consumer complaints as of Sunday, D.O.H. said.
