In an inspiring move to give back to their alma mater, the 2003 alumni of the St. Croix Educational Complex (SCEC) have established a 20th Anniversary Reunion Committee Fund in collaboration with the St. Croix Foundation for Community Development (SCF).
This fund aims to provide a scholarship award of up to $5,000 for a deserving 2023 graduating senior from SCEC, who will pursue higher education at an accredited college or university.
The St. Croix Foundation has begun accepting applications for the newly-established scholarship from Friday, with all submissions due before the deadline of June 16. Applicants must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher and provide proof of acceptance to a tertiary learning institution. The SCF Grants Review Committee will evaluate all applications, with decisions announced by June 30.
Anquanette Gaspard, a member of the SCEC 20th Anniversary Committee and Advisor to the Fund, expressed the class of 2003's enthusiasm for giving back to the institution that shaped their lives. Many alumni now contribute to various industries, including healthcare, entrepreneurship, architecture, engineering, and the Armed Forces. Although initially offering one scholarship, the fund aims to expand its support in 2024.
After receiving the scholarship funds, grantees will be required to report on their successes and challenges throughout the year. The feedback will help to ensure that the fund continues to meet the needs of its recipients, and provide additional support to students where required.
