The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency, VI Fire Services, and the VI Department of Public Works will begin the distribution of sandbags to homebound senior and physically challenged residents throughout the territory starting Thursday July 29 and Friday July 30, a release issued Friday has made known.
Special care home delivery will be available to all senior residents who have registered with the VI Health and Human Services Senior Disabled Registry, or for senior residents who are unable to pick up sandbags in person because of physical challenges at a future sandbag distribution event, VITEMA said.
Non-registered senior residents are asked to please contact their respective VITEMA office from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm on Monday July 26, and Tuesday July 27. St Thomas/St John 340-774- 2244 St Croix 340-773-2244.
VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen reminded the community that planning, and preparedness is one of the key missions of VITEMA and providing sandbags during the Operation Blue Skies Sandbag distribution is in line with supporting the community as residents prepare before a pending storm.
