ST. THOMAS — As part of V.I. History Month, local business Fyah One Bar & Restaurant is hosting the "Three Queens Art Exhibition" on March 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. and March 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. The show will feature three local female artists, Jasmine Lindquist, Sarah-Ann Mitchell, and Dominique Lezama.
According to a release issued Sunday, Fyah One Bar & Restaurant hopes to elevate local artists during VI History Month and beyond with an aim to keep Virgin Islands culture alive and vibrant, said owner Jared Smith.
With the territory as their inspiration, "these three queens are actively sculpting the future of Virgin Islands Contemporary Art," stated the release. "The exhibition will showcase fine art, NFTs, and live painting with local cocktails and cuisine available for purchase."
Artist information
Jasmine Lindquist is an artist from St. Thomas that draws inspiration from her surroundings and is most inspired by the local flora and fauna. Using acrylic on canvas she produces dreamy compositions containing familiar imagery in order to instill a sense of warmth and joy. As an illustrator, she makes sure that every painting contains a hidden story that she delights in watching a person create on their own.
Sarah-Ann Mitchell, The Black Sparrow, is a local Virgin Islander living on St. Thomas. She uses art to explore her perspective and identity while examining the social/political landscape that she resides in. Creative expression through digital and traditional mediums allows Sarah-Ann to reflect on the social/political landscape present during the living breathing history of the African Diaspora. She seeks to provoke discussion through her works and encourage honest discourse about the cultural evolution that took place from slavery through to liberation and beyond.
St. Thomian native, Dominique I Lezama (also known as Indra Lovely) is an All Saints Cathedral School Alum who sources her inspiration from the rich culture, history and colorful scenery throughout the Virgin Islands. Her body of work is an exploration of color and texture that provokes feelings of intrigue and introspection in the viewer. Dominique enjoys hearing the limitless interpretation of her abstract works based on each viewers’ experiences. She is an experienced creative and explores multiple mediums such as modeling, photography, digital art, fluid art, modeling paste, and resin. Dom merges together boldness, modern lines and classic flair to create visual poetry.
