Virgin Islands consumers are being told to immediately stop using certain scented Mistolin and Lestoil cleaning products included in a recall of approximately 6.3 million bottles because they may contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacteria that can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems or external medical devices.
The V.I. Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs issued the alert Saturday, saying the recall involves Mistolin Dilutable Cleaners and Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaners manufactured by Clorox Manufacturing Company of Puerto Rico, Inc. The recall applies only to certain scented products sold in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to DLCA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is commonly found in soil and water. The bacteria can enter the body through inhalation, the eyes or breaks in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected, while those with compromised immune systems or external medical devices may face a risk of serious infection requiring treatment.
Products Included in the Recall
The affected Mistolin Dilutable Cleaners include:
- Alegra tu Día
- Espíritu Play
- Flores de Primavera
- Fresco Despertar
- Frescura de Lavanda
- Frescura Tropical
- Manzana y Canela
- Pino y Especias
- Sólo para Ti
The affected Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaners include:
- Energía del Yunque
- Fuerza de Lavanda Tropical
- Intenso Limon Boricua
- Olas de Rincón
Only scented products are included. The affected cleaners were sold in 28-, 40-, 64- and 128-fluid-ounce bottles.
Consumers should also check the date code printed on the side of the bottle. Recalled products have codes beginning with “PR01” followed by a five-digit number between 25091 and 26168, representing products manufactured between April 1, 2025 and June 17, 2026.
Consumers Told to Stop Use Immediately
Anyone with an affected product should stop using it immediately.
Consumers seeking a refund are instructed to register through the recall website and provide a photograph of the 12-digit UPC code on the label along with a photograph of the date code printed on the bottle. The recalled cleaner should then be discarded in its original container with household trash.
Eligible consumers can receive a full refund of the purchase price with a receipt. Those without a receipt may receive the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
No incidents or injuries associated with the recalled products have been reported.
