Public Schools in the territory are celebrating Black History Month with a host of activities, the Dept. of Education has made known. D.O.E. said while additional dates will be announced when available, the following are events planned thus far:

St. Thomas-St. John District 

Joseph Gomez Elementary School - Cafeteria

  • 9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. – Feb. 26: Black History Program/African American Dress Up Day

Joseph Sibilly Elementary School - Upper Courtyard

• 9:00 a.m. – Feb. 28: Black History Program

St. Croix District 

Arthur A. Richards K-8 School - Gymnasium

• 8:45 a.m. – Feb 21: Black History Program/African Wear Day

• 9:00 a.m. – Feb 26: Guest Speakers

Juanita Gardine K-8 School - Auditorium

• 9:00 a.m. – Feb. 21: Black History and Honor Awards Celebration/African Attire Day

• 2:00 p.m. – Feb. 28: Taste of Soul

Ricardo Richards Elementary School - Cafeteria

• 9:00 a.m. – Feb. 26: Poetry Slam Competition and African Wear Fashion Show

Pearl B. Larsen K-8 School - Auditorium

• 9:00 a.m. – Feb. 28: Black History Program

John H. Woodson Jr. High School - Auditorium

• 1:30 p.m. – Feb. 28: Black History Program

Claude O. Markoe Elementary School – Cafeteria

• 9:30 a.m. – Feb 28: 2nd Annual African Red-Carpet Affair Fashion Show

Central High School – Various classrooms

• 7:45 a.m. – Daily: Student presentations
