Students in the USVI have begun their Thanksgiving break, as schools close territory-wide on Wednesday to facilitate professional development for faculty and staff of educational institutions.
According to an announcement from the Virgin Islands Department of Education, professional development days play a crucial role in the continuous improvement of education quality. During these sessions, educators engage in specialized training, collaborative workshops, and strategic planning.
The department says it recognizes the importance of fostering a learning environment that thrives on innovation, and dedicated professional development days contribute significantly to achieving this goal.
Following Wednesday’s professional development day for educators, schools will also remain closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 23, 2023, and on Friday, November 24, 2023.
Normal school operations will resume on Monday, November 27, 2023.
