A real property tax amnesty established under Act No. 9050 will take effect from November 24, 2025 through February 21, 2026, allowing property owners to settle outstanding taxes without interest and penalties. Lt. Governor Tregenza Roach has authorized the Office of the Tax Collector to implement the waiver.
According to the announcement, interest and penalties will be waived only when the full amount of property taxes due for any tax year is paid before the final day of the amnesty period. Once the base tax for a given year is paid in full, the corresponding interest and penalty charges will be removed.
The Office of the Tax Collector clarified that the amnesty cannot be combined with existing payment arrangements. Property owners currently enrolled in an installment plan for delinquent taxes must first contact the Office of the Tax Collector to cancel their plan if they wish to take advantage of the waiver. A property owner may not participate in an installment payment plan and the amnesty program at the same time.
Residents seeking to review their accounts or confirm balances are encouraged to use the Citizen Access Portal at https://propertytax.vi.gov, where they can obtain tax status reports detailing property taxes, sewer fees, interest, and penalties. Property owners may also contact the Office of the Tax Collector directly for assistance.
Questions regarding eligibility, payment methods, or the cancellation of installment plans may be directed to the Office of the Tax Collector at 340-773-6449 for the St. Croix District and 340-774-2991 for the St. Thomas/St. John District.
