ST. THOMAS — A major power outage that affected St. Thomas and St. John Saturday was rectified and power fully restored at about 6:05 p.m. the same day, WAPA said Sunday.
In responses to the Consortium, the authority said the outage started at about 1:30 p.m. caused by "a substantial loss of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant."
Gradual restoration commenced in earnest at about 4:00 p.m.
At roughly 6:30 p.m. a feeder was taken offline as a precaution measure after someone reported that a pole was on fire. WAPA determined it was a bad bank of transformers scheduled to be changed Sunday morning. Only a shopping center was affected, the authority said.
WAPA continues to have trouble with keeping power on even as it seeks substantial increases to the Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause, or LEAC, as fuel prices surge.
