The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) said Friday it has prepared its port facilities for possible inclement weather as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the U.S. Virgin Islands. VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe provided the following update on airport and seaport operations:
- Airports will remain open as normal. There have been no flight cancellations thus far. Travelers are encouraged to contact their airlines directly for flight information before arriving at the airport.
- Seaports are expected to be closed at 8 a.m. this morning by the U.S. Coast Guard.
- Passenger Ferries: On Friday, August 21, 2020, the last passenger ferry from Cruz Bay, St. John will depart at 11 a.m., and the last ferry will depart from Red Hook, St. Thomas at 12 noon. (There is no scheduled St. Croix/St. Thomas ferry service until September 4, 2020).
- Car Ferries: There will be no car ferry service on Friday, August 21 due to possible inclement weather.
