Port Authority Announces Enhanced Security and Parking Measures at Red Hook and Cruz Bay Ahead of St. John Carnival Opening

In anticipation of the 69th Anniversary of Carnival in "Love City," the V.I. Port Authority has issued important updates regarding security and parking at its seaports in Red Hook, St. Thomas, and Cruz Bay, St. John. These measures are set to take effect from Thursday, June 29, as the St. John Celebration 2023 Village opens in Cruz Bay.

With the safety of the community and visitors in mind, VIPA is set to heighten security measures at its seaports. Attendees should anticipate encountering Port Police, TSA agents, and other law enforcement officers conducting security screenings and searches. This augmented presence of law enforcement is in accordance with requests from the St. John Carnival Committee.

"We strive to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival season for everyone, and these measures will help achieve that," said a spokesperson from VIPA. "Cooperation with security personnel will greatly assist in providing a secure environment."

In addition, VIPA warns the public to heed the signs prohibiting vessel berthing at the Victor Sewer Marine Facility (the Creek) in Cruz Bay. The berthing spaces here have been reserved for law enforcement vessels. Any privately-owned vessels found berthed in the reserved spaces will be removed.

For those planning to drive to the event, VIPA has made provisions for parking at the Urman V. Fredericks Marine Terminal. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with rates following the parking fees posted at the facility. VIPA encourages attendees to make use of these facilities to reduce congestion near the event.
