Three Queens Statues in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Students from grades K through 12 across the Virgin Islands will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in commemoration of Virgin Islands History month this year, by submitting an entry to Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett’s Virgin Islands History Month Contest.
The contest, which runs from February 15 to March 15, requires students to submit an original video or visual exhibition featuring a reenactment, reading, or other creative production of, or inspired by, any event in the history of the Virgin Islands or its culture, whether it be a speech, scene, artistic work, an event.
Ms. Plaskett said the contest was designed to pay homage to the “many powerful voices and stories of Virgin Islanders in our past and to the present.”
She added that she was confident of the contest’s impact in showing Virgin Islands students how to harness their creativity while highlighting the historic achievements of the people of the Virgin Islands.
March is recognized annually as the Virgin Islands History Month during which the achievements and contributions of the people of the Virgin Islands are highlighted. Submissions must be emailed to [email protected].
