Parking Restrictions Announced For Tart Wars as Residents Get Ready for Epic Dessert Showdown

The V.I. Police Department has announced traffic and parking restrictions for the upcoming Tart Wars event scheduled for Saturday in Frederiksted Town. The Tart Wars event, presented by West Gyul, the ubiquitous Facebook page promoting positivity on St. Croix, promises a fun-filled day with activities such as tart competitions, live music, and cultural performances at Fort Frederik Buddhoe Park.

The Tart Wars event will feature music by DJ Genius, Mr. Energy, Party Jesus, and live performances by Pura Fire, Dem Boyz, and Nikki Brooks. The schedule includes a conch shell welcome, performances by Saint Patrick’s School Steelpan and Ten Sleepless Knights, moko jumbie performances, and the announcement of Tart Dealer winners in various categories. The event will culminate with the announcement of the 2024 Tart Wars Tart Team Winner at 5:45 p.m.

To ensure the safety of attendees and the smooth flow of the event, the following restrictions will be enforced:

  • No Parking will be allowed in the parking lot area between the Custom House Building and UCA from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • No Parking on King Street between Midre Cummings Park and Fort Frederik from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • No Traffic will be allowed on King Street going northbound from Lagoon Street towards the bridge. All traffic will be rerouted onto Lagoon Street towards Queen Street and the Government parking lot area. All north and southbound traffic will be rerouted around Midre Cummings Park.
  • No Traffic will be allowed towards the Ann Abrahamson Marine Facility from King Street and from Strand Street from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The VIPD encourages all attendees to plan their routes accordingly and wishes everyone a fun and safe time at Tart Wars.

The event promises a variety of activities for all ages:

  • 11:00 AM: Conch Shell Welcome
  • 11:15 AM: Introduction
  • 12:00 PM: Saint Patrick’s School Steelpan
  • 1:00 PM: Ten Sleepless Knights
  • 2:30 PM: Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies alongside Saint Patrick’s School Steelpan
  • 3:00 PM: Announcement of Tart Dealer Winners (Best Coconut Tart, Best Pineapple Tart, Best Guava Tart, Best Specialty Tart, People's Choice Tart Dealer)
  • 3:30 PM: Nikki Brooks Performance
  • 4:15 PM: Dem Dudes featuring Pura Fire Dancers
  • 5:45 PM: Announcement of 2024 Tart Wars Tart Team Winner

Tart Wars Colosseum Games

  • 2:00 PM: Colosseum Games involving five different competitions where Tart Teams will compete against each other. Activities include the Ballon Cup Challenge, Pon De River, Trivia, Tart/Spoon Race, and Tart Wars Musical Chairs.
  • 4:00 PM: Best Dressed Contest, encouraging participants to dress impressively to support their favorite tart team, with the winner chosen by crowd applause.
