ST. CROIX — Augers drilling, forklifts unloading trailers, wood being sawed, frames being constructed, food served and volunteers everywhere you looked: It was quite the start for the rebuild project at Midre Cummings Park in Frederiksted on Friday, though more volunteers are needed in the community/government rebuild effort.

According to a release issued by Children First St. Croix Project, a nonprofit group, the playground's rebuild was started by the Children First St. Croix Committee who partnered with the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation and the government of the Virgin Islands. "It is the first joint project of its kind, community and government, in the VI," stated the release.

The first three crews of volunteers began work at the park at 8:00 a.m. and the last finished at 8:30 p.m. The volunteers were divided into small crews each with a crew leader.  There is a wide range of jobs that the volunteers are doing, according to the release.

The goal is to have 90 volunteers for each shift and volunteers are still needed.  Shifts are available November 13-16 and November 17-20.  The final build will be completed on November 20.
