ST. CROIX — Police on Sunday at around 9:26 a.m. were dispatched to a residence in Estate St. Georges in reference to an apparent gunshot victim.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, officers traveled to the residence and made contact with an adult black male who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The man, the owner of a security company, stated he was unloading his firearms to secure them when the firearm he was handling accidentally went off, striking him in the leg, Mr. Derima said. The victim was transported to the Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center via ambulance for treatment.
This case is currently under investigation, Mr. Derima said. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
