ST. CROIX — A man died Saturday morning after suddenly collapsing inside the Frederiksted Post Office while checking his mail, according to information provided to V.I. Consortium by people with knowledge of the incident.

The incident occurred after 7 a.m. on October 10, with surveillance footage reportedly showing the man falling to the floor of the facility's lobby at approximately.

The man, described as heavyset, was reportedly associated with a truck bearing Florida license plates and had been in the Virgin Islands for several months. His identity has not been independently established for publication.

The circumstances surrounding the apparent medical emergency remain unclear, including whether the man suffered a heart attack.

The U.S. Postal Service maintains procedures for medical emergencies on postal property, including immediately contacting 911, notifying appropriate personnel and arranging emergency medical assistance.
