A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Guadeloupe early Monday morning, with tremors reported across several Leeward Islands. The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake at 9:16 a.m. UTC (5:16 a.m. AST), with a depth of 60 kilometers.
The epicenter was located 28.7 kilometers (17.8 miles) north-northeast of Anse-Bertrand, Guadeloupe. The quake also measured 43.7 kilometers (27.1 miles) north of Le Moule, 50.1 kilometers (31.1 miles) north of Les Abymes, 51.2 kilometers (31.7 miles) southeast of Falmouth, Antigua and Barbuda, and 51.8 kilometers (32.1 miles) northeast of Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe.
The tremor, designated as magnitude type “mww,” has been reviewed by a seismologist. An earthquake alert issued by AlertVI at 5:36 a.m. AST noted that the quake may have been felt in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Residents across Montserrat, Antigua, Dominica, Guadeloupe, and other neighboring islands reported feeling the quake, though no damage or injuries have been confirmed.
The seismic event was recorded within the Leeward Islands region, an area close to Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Marie-Galante, Dominica, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
