Thriving Charity Advocates, LLC (TCA), an Economic Development Commission beneficiary based on St. Thomas, has generously donated $30,000 to the Partners for Strings (PFS) Virgin Islands Youth Orchestra.
Led by award-winning music producers Wesley Campbell and David Wagner, TCA understands the value of supporting the creativity of young musicians, as Mr. Campbell expressed in a letter to PFS announcing the donation.
TCA officials dropped in on a youth orchestra practice session to make their donation, and explained their organization’s purpose. “"TCA impacts the forgotten, marginalized, and poor by connecting artists, tours, and live events with humanitarian organizations to leverage the stage and empower audiences to raise the funds necessary to change lives in a tangible way,” said Lauryl Knowles, the organization’s Compliance Director.
“Our partnership is granting us the opportunity to inspire and transform the lives of Virgin Islands young people through music," said Gloria Gumbs, President of the PFS Board of Directors, as she graciously accepted the gift alongside fellow board members James Gumbs Jr. and Priscilla Lynn.
The community partnership between TCA and PFS will continue to fund the youth orchestra's free after-school music program for children aged 6 to 17 in the islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix. The program teaches a variety of instruments including the violin, cello, flute, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, steel pan, drums, and other percussion instruments.
Orchestra sessions are currently held on St. Thomas at G-Clef Music Academy in Mandela Circle from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The St. Croix sessions are scheduled to commence on November 4, at G-Clef’s location in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturdays.
The young musicians showed their appreciation for the kind donation by treating TCA representatives to a preview of their upcoming Christmas Concert, playing a "Christmas Mash-Up" that showcased their growing skills. The concert, themed "Blow the Trumpet: Peace and Joy Have Come to Earth," is set for Wednesday, November 8, at the St. Thomas Assembly of God Church. Admission is free.
