V.I. Lottery and Gov't House officials during the Bryan administration's Covid-19 press briefing on Monday announced the latest winners of the "Vax-to-Win" lottery initiative, which aims to encourage Virgin Islanders to get vaccinated with a chance of winning $100,000.
This week's winners are: Aretha McFarlande on St. Croix, and Rena Yu in the St. Thomas-St. John District, whose prize was collected by her father, Xinbin Yu, as his daughter, a Virgin Islander and minor is attending college in Florida.
Both winners will receive $100,000 each.
"Thank you for taking your best shot and for protecting yourselves and our community," Mr. Bryan said. He said the names of the next two winners have already been drawn, and V.I. Lottery officials were in the process of verifying their residency and other eligibility requirements.
"There names will be announced at next Monday's press briefing," Mr. Bryan said.
On Saturday, the V.I. Dept. of Health reported 208 active Covid-19 cases in the territory – up from 189 a day earlier — with 141 on St. Thomas, 61 on St. Croix and 6 on St. John. According to D.O.H., St. Croix had nineteen new cases between July 22-23, while St. Thomas had twenty during the same period. However, the Dept. of Health listed twenty individuals as recovered, leading to the adjusted number of 208 infections.
New numbers were not posted at time of writing.
