Deep cleaning following an electrical fire in the administrative office will keep the campus of the Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8 School closed until Wednesday, said Department of Education officials in a press release on Sunday.
Until then, students “will continue to receive virtual instruction,” the department said.
Meanwhile, students return to the John H. Woodson Jr. High School campus, following its closure after a major flood in late September rendered the school, which had already been struggling with several deficiencies, unusable.
Repair efforts included mold remediation, a new HVAC system for the main office, campus deep cleaning, and the installation of hundreds of new hallway lights. Video of a walk-through conducted on campus was posted by the department on Sunday, showing off the work that has been done in preparation for Monday’s return to in-person classes.
D.O.E. reported that executive board members of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association, as well as members of the 35th Legislature were also present for the walk-through.
