On Monday, the Department of Education announced the reopening of the John H. Woodson Jr. High School after it was temporarily closed last week due to mold and other infrastructural issues.
According to VIDE, Tuesday's re-opening “follows the successful completion of deep cleaning efforts in classrooms affected by mold.” Additional testing is expected, and “remediation will occur in areas that have been identified.”
According to the announcement, a post-cleaning walkthrough of the campus was conducted on Monday with school administrators, maintenance personnel and representatives of the American Federation of Teachers, to ensure that the premises were suitable for the resumption of in-person classes.
The Bureau of School Construction and Maintenance “remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing mold and related environmental concerns in our schools,” the statement read.

The mold prompted a school-wide response, forcing all classes to be held outdoors. Following the Consortium's report, VIDE swiftly moved to temporarily close the school, expediting remediation efforts originally scheduled for later this month to address the issue.
