The V.I. of Education has announced school operations for Thursday, February 8 in both the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix Districts, following recent weather conditions.
In the St. Thomas-St. John District, all public schools will operate on their regular schedules. This decision comes as the district moves forward from the adverse weather conditions that impacted the region earlier.
In the St. Croix District, several schools will also resume regular operations. These include Ricardo Richards, Lew Muckle, and Claude O. Markoe schools for grades PreK-6, Juanita Gardine for PreK-8, and the St. Croix Educational Complex High School.
However, due to the impact of the inclement weather, certain schools in the St. Croix District will transition to virtual learning on February 8. This move is to ensure the continuity of education while dealing with the aftermath of the weather conditions.
The schools shifting to virtual learning include Alfredo Andrews PreK-6, Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8, Eulalie Rivera PreK-8, and St. Croix Central High School. Teachers at these schools will provide instructional links through the Parent Portal and student emails.
Additionally, John H. Woodson Jr. High School will conduct virtual instruction from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on February 8 and 9. This temporary schedule will allow teachers to prepare classrooms for the return to in-person learning on February 12.
The Dept. of Education also announced a Virtual Family Meeting for parents and students on February 8 at 6:00 pm via Zoom, providing a platform for updates and discussions regarding school operations amid the weather conditions.
D.O.E. urged the school community to stay informed and exercise caution during this period.
