The curtain came down on the DFG Community Impact Foundation of the Virgin Islands, Inc.'s 3rd Annual "Kids Kitchen" Summer Saturdays Meal Program, but not without creating a mark in the hearts of many.
Spearheaded by Senator Donna Frett-Gregory, the initiative has stood firm in its mission to address food insecurity among children in the Virgin Islands.
"Kids Kitchen was designed with the aim of ensuring that no child in the Virgin Islands faced hunger. Our dedicated team reached out across communities, weekend camps, and playgrounds, striving to eliminate childhood hunger and bring about positive community change," said a passionate Senator Frett-Gregory.
Kickstarted in 2021, the program provided meals every Saturday during the summer in multiple Virgin Islands communities. Celebrating the success, Ms. Frett-Gregory revealed that over 1,000 meals have been served since its inception.
The success of the program is attributed not only to its visionary leadership but also to local community partners. Special mentions included Blue Executive Services and Transportation, LLC, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Theta Sigma Sorority, Inc. Alumnae Chapter, Matt Fogarty, and Camshaft Capital.
"The unyielding support and dedication of our sponsors and volunteers have been pivotal," said the lawmaker. "They played a crucial role in seamlessly executing the program and creating a meaningful impact on the young lives of the Virgin Islands."
DFG Community Impact Foundation of the Virgin Islands, Inc. goes beyond just the Kids Kitchen. As a nonprofit, it supports children, families, and the elderly through various initiatives. Some notable ones include book scholarships, meal programs for seniors, and the International Women’s Day celebration event. In a recent act of charity, the foundation donated blankets to Schneider Regional Medical Center's emergency room.
