Ford Motor Company on Tuesday started sending notices to owners of specific vehicle models, including the 2015 Fiesta, 2016 Fusion, and the 2016 Lincoln MKZ, alerting them to a significant safety concern affecting these vehicles.

In mid-November, Ford announced that some of these vehicles had an issue with their door latches. A component inside the latch is reportedly prone to breakage, leaving the door difficult to latch or possibly allowing the door to swing open while the vehicle is in motion.

Ford notes that some of these vehicles were sold and registered in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Ford dealers have been tasked with inspecting the date codes for the door latches in vehicles subject to the recall, and replacing all four side door latches free of charge if necessary.

Owners who do not wish to wait for notification letters to arrive in the mail can get more information by contacting Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline on 1-888-327-4236.
