The Rock City Run Club, in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Parks, and Recreation, is launching a brand-new event—the Carnival Shake Out—scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at Griffith Ballpark. This inaugural 1-Mile / 5K race invites community members of all ages and fitness levels to come together for a day of movement, music, and celebration.

Billed as a free event, the Shake Out carries the spirited motto: “Run, jog, or walk – just keep it moving!” Participants can expect a festive atmosphere featuring local celebrity runners, live music, medals, and other surprises designed to energize and unite the community as the 2025 Carnival Season gets underway.

The event will be hosted by “Deh Papi Show” and live-streamed by Vivid Streaming, ensuring both on-site and remote spectators can take part in the energy of the day. The race is open to everyone—no age limits—and encourages individuals and families alike to participate in the shared joy of movement.

Race Day Schedule:

  • 6:30 AM – In-person registration and bib pickup

  • 7:00 AM – Warm-up session led by “Bad Fitness Camp”

  • 7:30 AM – Official race start at “Blyden Terminal”

  • Award ceremony – Held immediately after race conclusion

While registration is free, organizers are encouraging voluntary donations to support a cause close to home. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Division of Music within the Virgin Islands Department of Education. The fundraiser aims to support and enhance music programs in public schools across the territory.

For Rayne Chesterfield, founder of Rock City Run Club and a product of the Virgin Islands’ public school system, the cause is deeply personal. “I discovered my love for music through the Division of Music. It’s where my creative journey began, and it’s my personal mission to give back to the programs that helped shape who I am—and to support future generations in discovering their own creative passions,” Chesterfield shared in a letter to prospective sponsors.

Rock City Run Club is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 66-1095671) focused on fostering a supportive environment for runners of all levels, promoting camaraderie, fitness, and community impact. The Shake Out is part of the organization’s broader goal to promote wellness and inclusion across the territory, with ambitions to eventually launch a full marathon in the USVI.

Those interested in joining the Carnival Shake Out can register online for free by scanning the QR code featured on promotional materials. All ages are welcome.
