ST. CROIX — Emergency crews responded to a major structural fire at the Lost Dog Pub in Frederiksted Sunday morning, after a 911 call at approximately 9:30 a.m. reported the commercial building in flames.

When firefighters and other first responders arrived, they found the structure fully engulfed, according to information provided at the scene. One individual had been inside the building when the fire broke out; that person was safely evacuated.

VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, who was on site, said fire crews were able to contain the blaze quickly enough to prevent it from spreading to neighboring businesses. In addition to firefighters, utility personnel were dispatched to secure electrical systems and help determine whether the incident may have originated from an electrical issue.

The exact cause of the fire remains under active investigation. The area surrounding the establishment has been blocked off as emergency crews and fire investigators continue their work.
