The Federal Emergency Management Agency has granted $1,059,276.24 to the Virgin Islands Department of Education in relation to 2017 storms Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The award provides federal funding for Emergency Protective Measures, which are “actions taken before, during, and after an incident to save lives, protect public health and safety, and prevent damage to improved public and private property,” according to a press release from Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett.
“This important grant will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with our ongoing rebuilding efforts ...The United States government and the international community has an obligation to work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help rebuild our islands,” Ms. Plaskett said.
