Felix and Petersen Capture District Spelling Bee Titles

Rayan Felix of Free Will Baptist Christian School won the St. Croix round, while Melaya Petersen of Ulla F. Muller Elementary School led the St. Thomas–St. John field. The top six finalists from each district advance to the Territorial Bee on March 19.

Twenty-five students advanced to Thursday’s District Spelling Bees, representing schools across the territory.

Rayan Felix of Free Will Baptist Christian School earned the St. Croix title. In the St. Thomas–St. John district, Melaya Petersen of Ulla F. Muller Elementary School secured the win.

Petersen, an eight-year-old third grader, was the youngest of 13 competitors onstage at Charlotte Amalie High School during the St. Thomas event.

The six highest-ranking finalists in each district will move on to the Territorial Bee scheduled for March 19.
