The V.I. Dept. of Education announced Tuesday that due to ongoing maintenance efforts to address challenges with modular units, a necessary schedule adjustment has been made for specific classes at Eulalie Rivera Pre-K to 8 School.

This change, coming just one day after school reopened after the long summer break, takes effect on Wednesday, August 7 through Friday, August 9, affects 6th-grade students and kindergarten students in Ms. K. Plaskett’s class, the department said. The temporary adjustment aims to ensure conducive learning environments for all students and faculty.

The department's maintenance personnel are working under the guidance of the Department of Health to meet all required standards, according to the release. The repairs to the school's cafeteria have been successfully completed, and a thorough deep cleaning will allow meal services to resume starting tomorrow. However, ongoing repairs to the kitchen area mean that meals will continue to be prepared at an alternate location but will now be served in the Eulalie Rivera cafeteria. It is important to note that the cafeteria and kitchen are two separate areas, VIDE said.

During this maintenance period, only the 6th-grade classes and Ms. Plaskett’s kindergarten class will be affected. These students will receive asynchronous home instruction, with detailed information and instructions provided to parents and students through the school’s communication platforms, according to the release. In-person instruction for these classes is scheduled to resume on Monday, August 12.

The department emphasized that all other classes at Eulalie Rivera Pre-K to 8 School will continue with full in-person sessions without any interruption.

The department thanked parents and guardians of the affected 6th-grade and kindergarten students for their patience and understanding during this time.
