Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has officially designated October as "Rett Syndrome Awareness Month, issuing a proclamation that underscores the significance of awareness for this rare neurological disorder.
The governor also took the opportunity to commend Ella’s Hope Inc., a local nonprofit committed to elevating awareness of Rett Syndrome both within the territory and globally, as well as to funding research aimed at finding a cure.
In his statement, Governor Bryan praised Ella’s Hope Inc. for their relentless efforts, saying, “Ella’s Hope Inc stands out as a beacon of Rett Syndrome advocacy, tirelessly working to shed light on this condition within our community and far beyond.”
Mr. Bryan also spotlighted Ella Gaspard, a young Virgin Islander living with Rett Syndrome, and the namesake of Ella’s Hope Inc. “Ella’s story reminds us of the enduring human spirit and the importance of continuing the fight against rare diseases. Her journey symbolizes hope and perseverance in the face of adversity,” Governor Bryan noted.
"Ella’s Hope Inc is not just an organization,” he continued, “it's a testament to the power of compassion and unwavering dedication. We are profoundly grateful for their tireless work in raising awareness and their unceasing support for research grants. Ella herself is a source of inspiration for all of us, and her strength in her battle with Rett Syndrome embodies the Virgin Islands spirit of resilience.”
Governor Bryan is urging all residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands to come together this October to raise awareness and support organizations like Ella’s Hope Inc. He emphasized that collective efforts could bring about meaningful changes in the lives of those grappling with Rett Syndrome and other rare diseases.
