Early Voting Showing Big Numbers as Virgin Islanders Cast Ballots Ahead of Nov. 3 to Avoid Crowds

Early voting has been trending high across the United States, and in the U.S. Virgin Islands the results are similar. According to the Election System of the Virgin Islands, as of Monday 4,028 people had voted in the territory, with five more days left before early voting ends on Oct. 25. The general election is set for Nov. 3.

Early voting breakdown as of Monday is as follows: St. Thomas –1,882, St. Croix -2,021 and St. John- 125, territory-wide, 4,028 voters.

According to the Wall Street Journal, more than 22.2 million people have voted in the general election either in person or through the mail, according to figures from 42 states and the District of Columbia compiled by the Associated Press. For comparison, more than 58 million early ballots were cast in 2016 out of more than 136 million. WSJ added that through Friday, at least 10 states had already exceeded the amount of early votes they received during the entire 2016 election. That includes the competitive states of Pennsylvania, Minnesota and New Hampshire.

The Election System of the Virgin Islands encouraged voters to cast their ballots in a timely manner. Hours for early voting are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Voting locations are as follows:

  • St. Croix Elections Office – Sunny Isles, former Movie Theater location between Master Insurance Agency Nav Jewelers
  • St. Thomas– Charlotte Amalie High School Gymnasium
  • St. John Elections Office – Market Place Suite II, 3rd Floor
