The V.I. Department of Education said Thursday it has been made aware of an effort in the St. Thomas-St. John District where persons claiming to be representatives of D.O.E. are engaged in a door-to-door food drive requesting monetary donations in exchange for canned goods.
"This is a scam. The V.I. Department of Education has no association with this fraudulent activity," D.O.E. said.
The department encouraged persons who may have fallen victim to the scam to immediately call 911.
