The V.I. Department of Education has provided an update on public school operations set to take effect on Tuesday, October 10. The changes apply to both the St. Thomas-St. John District and the St. Croix District.
St. Thomas-St. John District Operations:
- All public schools will follow their regular schedules from October 10, 2023.
- Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School (BCB) will return to in-person learning. All BCB students are expected to attend in-person from the specified date and are advised to bring their devices to school daily until further directives are issued.
St. Croix District Operations:
- Most public schools will adhere to their regular schedules. However, some institutions will operate on an abbreviated schedule due to the current heatwave. Bus services will remain available.
- Eulalie Rivera K-8 School (ERR) will resume operations with an abbreviated timing from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm.
- St. Croix Central High School (CHS) will also adopt an abbreviated schedule, running from 7:40 am to 1:05 pm.
- St. Croix Educational Complex (SCEC) and the Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC) will operate from 7:40 am to 1:05 pm.
- John H. Woodson Jr. High School is set to operate entirely virtually, adopting a full-day schedule from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
D.O.E. has emphasized the significance of a smooth transition for students switching from in-person to virtual learning. They have ensured that students are equipped with the necessary instructions to access virtual classes.
Additionally, there's a device distribution plan in place for students requiring gadgets to support their virtual education. The distribution starts on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with the following schedule:
- Tuesday, October 10, 2023:
- 8th graders: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm in the school’s cafeteria.
- 7th graders: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the school’s cafeteria.
- Wednesday, October 11, 2023 (Final Day for Device Collection):
- 7th and 8th graders: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm in the school’s cafeteria.
Students eligible for device distribution are urged to capitalize on this opportunity for an uninterrupted virtual education journey.
