The V.I. Dept. of Human Services announced Wednesday a delay in the return to full in-person classroom instruction for Head Start classrooms across the territory.

“In the Department of Human Services’ ongoing efforts to ensure the health and safety of our Head Start students and staff, in-person Head Start classroom services may resume on Monday, January 24, 2022, depending on the Covid outbreak in the territory," said D.H.S. Commissioner Kimberley Causey-Gomez. "As we continue to monitor the Covid/Omicron positive cases, we will update and inform our Head Start staff, families and the community accordingly.”

According to the release, the remote learning process will follow the established protocols. Head Start staff will provide parents and guardians with packets containing educational and interactive materials to enable them to keep children engaged in learning, collaboratively with as the department navigates the safe return to classrooms.

All Head Start staff are to report to work on Monday, January 10. During this period of remote learning, meals will be available for all Head Start students. Meal distribution will begin at all Head Start sites territory-wide on Wednesday, January 12. Parents and guardians of enrolled Head Start students are asked to pick up their students' meals from their assigned classroom site between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. during the weekdays, excluding the Martin Luther King holiday.
