The V.I. Port Authority is advising the traveling public that the Cyril E. King Airport’s (CEKA) Air Traffic Control Tower on St. Thomas is temporarily closed due to a staffing shortage. However, the tower is expected to reopen today, said VIPA Territorial Airport Manager Jerome Sheridan.

In the meantime, airplanes destined for CEKA will communicate with the air traffic services in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which is a standard backup procedure approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Cyril E. King Airport is open and operating as normal, the authority said. However, some flight delays are expected.  VIPA apologized for any inconvenience and advises travelers to contact their airlines directly concerning flight schedules.
