The V.I. Port Authority on Thursday provided updates on its Charlotte Amalie Waterfront Fendering project, while also announcing the commencement of work in March of the Cyril E. King Airport parking garage.
New CEKA Parking Garage
VIPA will begin the construction of a new, multi-level Parking Transportation Center at the Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas in March 2021. The new parking garage will provide over 600 parking spaces and a designated area for all taxis and rental car agencies. During the construction period, there will be very limited parking space at the Cyril E. King Airport. Residents are encouraged to arrange being dropped off and picked up at the airport terminal when traveling.
The Port Authority said it will provide more details about this project before it begins.
Charlotte Amalie Waterfront Fendering Project Progresses
The authority said its project to install new fendering along the eastern end of the Charlotte Amalie Waterfront bulkhead is 50 percent completed. VIPA has hired Lighthouse Marine to install small and large fenders along the Waterfront bulkhead. The fenders are being spaced to ensure that most of the bulkhead has fendering. The project should be completed by March 2021. VIPA will continue to repair deteriorated fendering at all its marine facilities territory-wide.
The Waterfront in the Charlotte Amalie Harbor encompasses 3,200 feet of bulkhead space that runs parallel to the shopping district on St. Thomas, VIPA made known. It is also located adjacent to banks, restaurants and other venues that make it an ideal berthing location. The Waterfront can accommodate yachts and other luxury vessels, mini-cruise ships, cruise ship tenders and other small vessels. The draft alongside the Waterfront ranges from four feet to 14 feet. Provisioning, water delivery and fueling are allowed with permission from VIPA along the bulkhead.
