ST. CROIX — The Cry RAPE Campaign is mobilizing the community for its "Walk Against Violence" event scheduled for October 20, in Frederiksted. Organized by Dr. Gail-Ann Guy in partnership with local organizations, including the V.I. Police Department, Beautiful Dreamers, and HOPE Inc., the event aims to unite residents in taking a stand against violence in all its forms.

Participants are set to gather at the Frederiksted Police Station at 3:00 p.m., with the march commencing promptly between 3:45 and 4:00 p.m. The walk will proceed through Frederiksted’s streets to raise awareness about the impact of violence on individuals, families, and the broader community.

“We are calling on the community to come out in support of this powerful cause,” said Dr. Gail-Ann Guy, the campaign organizer. “Violence affects us all directly or indirectly, and it’s time we take a united stand against it. This walk is not just about awareness but about action – about saying, ‘enough is enough.’”

The Cry RAPE Campaign, an acronym for Report, Advocate, Protect, and Educate, has been actively raising awareness about gender-based violence and other forms of abuse both locally and internationally. This walk is part of its larger effort to tackle escalating violence, particularly affecting women, youth, and vulnerable communities in the Virgin Islands.

To ensure a successful event, the campaign is seeking sponsorship from local businesses and community leaders. Dr. Guy and her team are requesting donations of bottled water, ice, drinks, and paper towels to keep participants comfortable during the walk. “This is a community-wide event, and we’re hoping that local businesses will lend their support in any way they can to help make this event a success,” Dr. Guy emphasized.

The event will also feature special performances, including a Drum Corps led by the St. Croix Adventist Youth Council. Participants are encouraged to wear the symbolic colors of the event, white and purple. Event t-shirts can be pre-ordered by contacting Dr. Guy directly.

“This is a chance for the community to come together in a meaningful way,” Dr. Guy continued. “We need everyone – young, old, men, women – to join us in this movement. Violence is everyone’s issue, and it’s only together that we can work toward real solutions.”

For more details or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities, individuals are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Gail-Ann Guy at [email protected].

The Cry RAPE Campaign invites the community to walk for change, uniting efforts to build a safer, violence-free Virgin Islands.
