ST. CROIX — The men of Rotary Club Mid-Isle some 14 years ago made it their business to keep the road verge garden in Golden Rock clean. They also use the time — done every few weeks, according to the men — for some bonding.

Saturday morning, around the 6:00 a.m. hour, was one of those days.

The men said they took on the task "so that we can contribute to the community by keeping this place looking nice."

Since adopting the garden, seen at the Golden Rock intersection near the One Love Gas Station, Rotary Mid-Isle named it the Peace Garden dedicated to the memory of Ralph Collins, who was a Rotary Mid-Isle member but has since passed.

"Whenever it looks a little shaky, we come here to clean it up and make it look good," said Willard John, a Rotary Mid-Isle member and a well known figure in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The men said the cleaning project is one way the group can give back to the community and have fun in the process.
