ST. CROIX — The V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources has announced the temporary closure of the Florence A. Williams Public Library in Christiansted due to a series of break-ins and thefts over the past two weeks.

The most recent incident occurred over the weekend and involved the theft of computers and other valuable equipment. DPNR Commissioner Jean-Pierre Oriol stated that the closure will allow the V.I. Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents and for library staff to begin the necessary cleanup process.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the community’s patience and support during this time,” Mr. Oriol said in a statement.

The library will remain closed until further notice as efforts are made to ensure the facility’s security and restore normal operations.
