Government House announced Monday that Governor Albert Bryan has issued a proclamation commemorating Thursday, November 25 as Thanksgiving Day and a proclamation granting administrative leave to non-essential government employees for a “A Day of Thanksgiving Reflection” and urging them to observe the extended holiday with appropriate thankful and reflective activities at home.
Non-essential employees are granted leave on Friday, November 26.
“All Virgin Islanders are encouraged during this extended Thanksgiving Day holiday period to engage in protected family gatherings of reflection and prayer on the continuing effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on our lives, families, economy and resources,” Mr. Bryan wrote. “And to give thanks for the passing of a very active hurricane season without serious damage; and to stay safer at home during this time.”
In a separate proclamation, the governor approved administrative leave for the holiday season to include Christmas, Christmas Second Day and New Year’s Day. Territory-wide, all government employees are granted administrative leave on:
- Friday, December 24, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Christmas Eve
- Monday, December 27, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., in observance of Christmas Second Day, December 26, 2021, which falls on a Sunday this year.
- Friday, December 31, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., New Year’s Eve
Gov't House said administrative leave does not apply to essential employees and employees on a regular or rotating shift. Employees on annual or sick leave immediately preceding or immediately following the time period administrative leave is granted will not receive administrative leave, and future leave will not be substituted for employees who are considered essential and/or whose shift happens to fall on a day in which other employees are granted administrative leave.
