In an effort to streamline boating regulations, the V.I. Dept. of Planning and Natural Resources has declared the beginning of vessel and mooring registrations for the 2023-2024 year. The Division of Environmental Enforcement (DEE) opened the registration window at the beginning of June.

To streamline the process, DPNR Commissioner Jean-Pierre Oriol urged everyone to submit or apply for renewals, new vessel registrations, anchoring permits, and mooring applications via DEE’s new online service.

"We have invested in an online platform to make vessel and mooring registration more convenient for the end user, and we encourage all to take advantage of the online system," Oriol said.

Nevertheless, for those who prefer in-person service, DEE’s St. Croix office can be visited at Annas Hope near Public Works, and the St. Thomas/St. John office can be found at the Viya Building in Tutu Park Mall. Boaters are requested to carry their most recent registration cards and a photograph of the vessel being registered to facilitate the process.

The boating community is also reminded to provide GPS coordinates of the mooring in Geographic Coordinate System when applying or renewing a mooring application.

Those who register after June 30th will be classified as late and may be subjected to a late fee.

For further information or assistance with the Online Mooring system, boaters are welcome to reach out to Juan Cruz, Outreach Coordinator, at (340) 773-5774 on St. Croix or Jessica Magras, Assistant Director, at (340) 774-3320 on St. Thomas.
