The V.I. Bureau of Motor Vehicles has begun sending customers text messages and emails when their vehicle registrations are due for renewal, part of a new notification system intended to improve convenience and reduce the number of expired registrations across the territory.
The service took effect immediately and is designed to give motorists advance notice that their registrations need to be renewed.
The BMV reminded vehicle owners that they do not have to wait until a registration expires before completing the process. Registrations may be renewed three months or more before their expiration dates.
Customers may also renew online through the BMV’s website at bmv.vi.gov, allowing them to complete the process without visiting a BMV office.
A current and valid motor vehicle insurance policy is required for every registration renewal, regardless of whether the transaction is completed online or in person. Motorists should ensure that their coverage remains active and up to date to avoid processing delays.
To receive the new text and email notices, customers are encouraged to verify their contact information with the BMV and update it whenever their telephone number or email address changes.
