The Bureau of Motor Vehicle has announced that due to the extension of the Stay-at-Home order issued by Governor Albert Bryan, BMV will only be serving customers by appointment.
The new protocols are as follows:
- The bureau will only be serving customers by appointments only, BMV Director Barbara McIntosh is requesting that customers do not come to the bureau until the appointment time. Customers will receive a reminder via text 30 minutes prior to their appointment and 2 minutes before they are required to come into the offices.
- All driver’s licenses and identification card services have resumed, customers must make an appointment online at bmv.vi.gov.
- McIntosh is encouraging the motoring public to take advantage of the bureau’s online vehicle registration process. During this period, the bureau will waive the requirement for inspection for any customer who renews a vehicle registration online. If customers need assistance in setting up an account or for technical assistance, email the bureau at [email protected]. Customers are reminded to contact their insurance agency to email proof of insurance to the bureau at [email protected].
- Inspection will continue to be waived for all private vehicles that are registered online until December 31, 2020. Regardless of the age of the vehicle, all vehicles can be registered online using the BMV E-Servicing system. Commercial vehicles must contact the bureau to make an appointment for inspection.
- All road tests and written test for the learner’s permit are canceled until further notice.
- All driver’s licenses and identification cards that expired as of March 2020, will be extended for a period of 6 months from the expiration date.
