Landfill Fire By. ERNICE GILBERT/VI CONSORTIUM
The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority said Wednesday that the St. Croix Anguilla Landfill would remain closed to the public on Thursday due to continued fire suppression activities at the site.
WMA said solid waste haulers are advised that municipal solid waste shall be received at the landfill from public bin sites and house to house collections only. Drivers are asked to follow directions provided by VIWMA personnel and contractors. Failure to comply shall result in temporary suspension of disposal privileges, safety is of utmost importance.
The authority said it would inform the public when resumption of normal operations would commence. "We will continue to provide updates as the situation changes. Residents with respiratory disorders/conditions should take precautions to minimize their exposure to smoke as wind directions change," WMA said.
WMA apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the community for their continued patience and cooperation.
