Update for Monday, June 15 2020 at 5:553 a.m.: The Waste Management Authority Sunday night announced the resumption of operations at the Anguilla Landfill beginning 6:00 a.m. Monday, June 15.
Original Story: The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority said Saturday night that the St. Croix Anguilla Landfill remains closed to the public following an active fire that was reported at 8:04 pm, Friday. The fire was suppressed by the Virgin Islands Fire Service along with WMA staff and contractors at 7:14 pm, Saturday, the authority said.
Solid waste haulers are advised that municipal solid waste shall be received at the landfill from public bin sites and house to house collections only. Drivers are asked to follow directions provided by WMA personnel and contractors.
Failure to comply shall result in temporary suspension of disposal privileges, WMA said.
The authority said it will inform the public on the resumption of normal operations. "We will continue to provide updates as the situation changes," Waste Management said.
Waste Management apologized for the inconvenience and would like to thank the community for their continued patience and cooperation.
