For nearly half a century, the Mu Gamma Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has been an active force in St. Croix, championing community economic wealth and other social initiatives. To celebrate this enduring impact, the chapter is launching its inaugural "Stroll the Runway: A Cultural Affair Fashion Show and Silent Auction." The event is scheduled for September 17 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sidney Lee Theatre at Island Centre, powered by Starlight Promotions.
Answering the Sorority's broader "Call to Action," Mu Gamma Omega has historically funded college scholarships through their signature debutante ball cotillion. The Chapter is now expanding its outreach with innovative programs, including weekend food distribution for students in need and an after-school student leadership initiative. The fundraiser aims to further support these efforts, as well as to promote economic empowerment by showcasing local businesses.
Several local fashion designers and boutiques will participate in the fashion show, featuring a wide range of designs and styles. These include Wilda’s Crochet Boutique, Juicy Juice Apparels/Too Much Juice, Strictly The Best Clothing, My Girlfriend’s Closet St. Croix and St. Thomas, Angela Designs, Made To Love, Lady C Designs, and Lady of Croix Boutique. Additionally, VibezNatural Products will participate as a vendor.
The silent auction will offer a range of enticing experiences and products. Bidders can vie for a day trip with Salt River Bay Kayak, a private dinner for two with Taste of St. Croix winner Chef Ozzie, a makeover consultation and personal styling session by STYLED by Jason Gardener, as well as a variety of jewelry pieces and accessories.
Entertainment for the afternoon will be provided by local artist BugZBugs, Guardians of Culture Moko Jumbies, Kaiso dancers, and Infamis of Syndicate Sounds. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Tickets can be acquired at Thomas Bakery Inc., Castle Coakley, and from Mu Gamma Omega chapter members.
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit scholarship initiatives and other community programs in St. Croix, aligning with the Chapter's long-term mission to foster social and economic development in the community.
