Government House announced Friday that all U.S. flags will fly at half-staff in observance of Pearl Harbor Day on December 7.
All flags should be flown half-staff all day until sunset on December 7, to remember and honor the 2,403 United States citizens who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941, which led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II, the release states.
Congress passed a joint resolution in 1994 declaring December 7 of every year as Pearl Harbor Day or Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
Please ensure that any and all American flags being flown at your workplace are properly raised fully, then lowered immediately to half-staff at sunrise on Monday, December 7, 2020.
Please be reminded that all flags being flown outdoors must be lowered at the end of the day/sunset unless the flagpoles are properly lit at night.
