All Virgin Islands Department of Education schools, including the Virgin Islands Virtual Academy Program, will be closed on Monday, September 19 because of inclement weather, the government's Joint Information Center, which activates during emergencies and natural disasters, announced Sunday.
According to the J.I.C., in order to assess and prepare schools for possible reopening on Tuesday, September 20, the following essential employees are required to report to work on Monday, September 19:
- Food Service Workers
- Custodians
- Maintenance Workers
- School Administrative Teams
All state and district employees are also required to report to their workstations on Sept. 19.
School open houses scheduled for the week of September 19-23 are postponed; rescheduled dates will be announced, the release stated.
The Department of Education will provide additional updates on its operations as weather conditions change.
