Aliyah Boston to be Welcomed Home June 4 With Sign Unveiling at Airport, Parade and More

Government House has announced that the Office of the Governor and the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation are hosting a hometown celebration on Saturday, June 4, for NCAA Women’s Basketball star Aliyah Boston with a sign unveiling at the Cyril E. King Airport, a parade down Veterans Drive and short congratulatory ceremony at the Waterfront Promenade.

The St. Thomas native and national champion front court All-Star for the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Champion South Carolina Gamecocks also will be conducting basketball camps for female basketball players from both districts while she is visiting the USVI, Gov't House said.

According to the release, the day begins with a sign-unveiling at 10 a.m. at King Airport on St. Thomas, which will be followed with a parade that leaves at 11:30 a.m. from the Emile Griffith Ball Park down Veterans Drive to the Promenade on the Waterfront Apron across from the Alexander Farrelly Justice Center.

There will be a brief congratulatory ceremony at the Promenade featuring remarks by Governor Albert Bryan.

  • Naismith Defensive Player of the Year (2022)
  • Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of the Year (2022)

  • NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player (2022)

 

Boston recently signed a deal with Under Armour, a leading inventor, marketer and distributor of branded athletic performance apparel, footwear and accessories, Gov't House said. Together they will host the first-ever Aliyah Boston Camp Powered by UA Nextin St. Thomas on June 10th. Fifty V.I. girls, 25 in each district, will participate in the basketball camp that is coming to the island as part of UA’s commitment to breaking down barriers that limit access to sport by increasing opportunities for youth athletes to compete.

Aliyah was born in St. Thomas and has lived with her aunt in Worcester, Massachusetts, since she was 12. She is the daughter of Cleone Boston and Algernon Boston, and has one sister, Alexis Boston.
