St. John resident Beverly Biziewski has been selected by AARP — the nonprofit organization that works to enhance the quality of life for all as they age — to receive the 2022 AARP in The Virgin Islands Andrus Award for Community Service, the association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.
According to the release, Ms. Biziewski was selected for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited the community, which AARP said reflected its vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers. Ms. Biziewski’s contributions include volunteering for the St. John Historical Society, the Audubon Society of the Virgin Islands, St. John Singers, the Nazareth Lutheran Church, the Wounded Warriors, and President of the St. John AARP Chapter #4777.
The award will be formally presented to Ms. Biziewski at a ceremony in the late fall, according to AARP.
“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” said Troy de Chabert-Schuster, state director of AARP-VI. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve.”
Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
According to information on the St. John Historical Society website, Ms. Biziewski has been a St. John resident for 40 years and as a retired nurse has engaged in extensive volunteerism.
"Active in numerous island groups which include Lioness, BPW, AARP, The Nazareth Lutheran Church, The Audubon Society and the Fish Bay Owners’ Association, she included the Historical Society of St. John some 29 years ago. In each of these organizations, she has been a guiding force. This is certainly true in the Historical Society where she has served us faithfully over the past years," reads the biography on the St. John Historical Society website, an organization for which she serves as a board member.
